Windy City Winnies' May Outing
Knox County welcomed the WCW early arrivals, Glassmans on Wednesday,
Genazes, Heggs, Davidson, Sheltons, Schleichs and Phillips on Thursday, with
showers.
Rain and puddles deterred much socializing until Friday morning when we met for
coffee and treats at the shelter house. Many of our group explored the historic
downtown Galesburg shops and museums under cool, cloudy but mostly dry skies
through the midday. Slowik and Barthel joined us in time for 4 o'clock happy hour
and Buddes (after a "check engine" delay) arrived in time for dinner at the Knoxville
Family Restaurant. We topped off the day with cake and ice cream to celebrate Bev
Davidson's birthday and a long and rousing hand of "Screw Your Neighbor"
Saturday dawned sunny, warm and windy. After coffee time most of us headed out in
search of the two Farmer's Markets in the area and a chance to see more of the
shops, museums or walking tours around Galesburg. Four o'clock happy hour (and
tired feet) lured everyone back to visit followed by the ever-generous pot luck dinner.
A small group of hardy souls remained for a few hands of cards followed by a
campfire supplied by Ken & Fran Phillips.
Sunday morning coffee preceded the business meeting.
Our thanks to everyone for helping to pack up and clean the shelter before they
departed for home.
