Windy City Winnies August Camp out

Our outing was at the Hoffman Lake Campground in Warsaw, Indiana.  Those who attended were Ray & Gail Barthel, Jerry & Nancy Bican and their guest Ray and Maryann Bican, Bev Davidson, Laurie and Bob Dukes plus Leilani, Gary & Nancy Latter, Gene and Mickey O’Boyle, Claudette and Jerry Slowik.  To our surprise Jo Ann and Norbert Budde joined us for one night for they were returning home from a trip to New York.

Some of our activities included a walk through the Village of Winona, which featured all different kinds of “ artistic “ expressions.  We also Went to Nappanee and toured the town of its antique shops.

As usual our waistlines didn’t suffer for we had meals at Culver’s, Golden Corral, Wendy’s and a fabulous dinner at Des Dutchman Essenhaus in Middlebury.  We shared breakfast treats each morning and on Sunday we celebrated two of our member’s birthdays ( Ray and Jerry) with cake and ice cream while it rained around us under Barthel’s awning.

While many of us were out a storm came in and thanks to the O’Boyle’s and the Dukes who got awnings up, windows closed, chairs put away and saw that the pets were all OK.  Thanks guys!

Our meeting was short and sweet, Claudette played sunshine lady and passed out Ghirardelli’s candy treats to Ray Barthel and Jerry Bican for their birthdays, and to the Budde’s who celebrated their anniversary.  Other members who celebrate anniversaries but couldn't’t be with us this month are the Phillips, Hedden’s and the Borcher’s.

Our president displayed our new Chapter of Excellence Award, which is a metal sign with an insignia on it.  Each year a new insignia will be added on if earned.  Gary Latter read a thank you letter for our donation to the youth program at GNR.

The next camp out will be to Rustic Barn in Kieler, WI on Sept 9-11th.   The wagon masters are the Glassman’s and the O’Boyle’s.
